Bringing an ally to playgroup

I'm in this AP mamas group, and we alternate book discussions (without babies ) and play dates (so far with babies, but maybe we'll do one without!). One of the mamas had a friend who wanted to host a playdate, so we went over to her house today.

I assumed she was a 'friendly'. I assumed that if she wanted to host an AP mom's group playdate, and that if she was friends with my friend, she probably parented similarly to us. That was silly of me.

Her DH was telling another mom (also not in our group) about how you just have to stick to your guns and never let the kids out of their beds at night and how miserable it is for a week or so, blah blah blah.

Apparently, the look on my face said all that I was thinking, because one of my friends loudly said "(real name)! How are you doing?" I thought it was odd at first because we'd been chatting for an hour or more, and then realized that she was just trying to take the look off my face.

From now on, I will always play date with an ally. I'm glad she was there to keep me from gawking. And to keep me from starting a conversation that would likely lead nowhere but hurt feelings.
